CELEBRATED Zimdancehall music producer DJ Fantan has come under heavy criticism and cyber bullying after he openly sided with Zanu-PF politician and businessman Tino Machakaire.
Machakaire is the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, and also the Zanu-PF legislator for Wedza South. He has come under the spotlight on social media over his purchase of a 2021 model Rolls-Royce Phantom extended base for a reported US$770 000.
Machakaire has previously funded Youths particularly in Zimdancehall. DJ Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa, runs Chillspot records which is one of the numerous beneficiaries of Machakaire’s benevolence.
However, things quickly went south Monday afternoon and degenerated into cyber bullying after the Zimdancehall producer urged Machakaire to be strong in the face of criticism. Fantan also said Machakaire was being unfairly criticized by those seeking clout.
“Dear Honourable Machakaire, be strong mukuru, bcoz kune vanhu vanoda kusvibisa mazita evamwe pa social media just for clout. Garai muchiziva kuti ane bhora ndiye anomakwa, strongest soldiers get the hardest fight.
“Ndimi mbinga one isina noise kana show off asi murikurira muma streets zvekudaro. So zvinorwadza vavengi. Now vakufambisa mbiri yekuti makatenga hammer kkk havasikuziva kuti munobatsira hamma,” Fantan beamed.
The criticism came crushing on Fantan’s social media platform like tones of bricks as his followers called him out for supporting “corrupt politicians”.
Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who has led the attacks on Machakaire since details of the Rolls-Royce alleged purchase emerged, also joined in the bashing of Fantan.
Chimonyo labelled Fantan an “out of touch music producer”. Below are some of the reactions.
However, a few others thought Fantan was well within his rights to support Machakaire considering that no solid proof of looting has been released on Machakaire as all accusations against him have been speculative.
A few months ago, Zimdancehall chanter Killer T received extreme bashing when he congratulated First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa on her birthday. □
