MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has called on people to observe Covid-19 prevention protocols as cases continue to surge with more lives being claimed.
Writing on his social media handles on Friday, the main opposition leader urged people to be cautious and avoid complacency.
His call comes at a time the third wave Delta variant is ravaging with over 2 300 new positive cases and 61 deaths being recorded on Thursday.
Several high profile figures have succumbed to the respiratory disease.
“These past weeks we lost many of our loved ones. Many have been sharing their experience with #COVID19. The virus doesn’t move on its own, It needs people. Fellow citizens, treat yourself as a potential carrier. Every gathering is a potential super-spreader. Let’s observe Covid protocols! Let’s us steadfastly PRAY to defeat this pandemic. Only God saves!”
The country is battling to contain the spread of the virus and the government is currently on a vaccination drive as it seeks to attain herd immunity.
Reports are that the situation is getting desperate in hospitals as more affected people seek hospitalisation.
Operations in government have been reduced with workstations being decongested and accommodating 25 percent of the workforce.
Reports are that access to the public service buses is now open to vaccinated employees. Private players have also joined the vaccination campaign with unvaccinated workforce being sent on leave.
