Former ZRP senior officer Douglas Hodzi dies of Covid-19

Hodzi joined the ZRP in 1993 as a two-way radio technician. He rose through the ranks and served the police force for 20 years, retiring in 2013.

DOUGLAS Hodzi, a retired senior police officer died last night in Gweru due to Covid-19 complications, his family has confirmed.

He was 60.

Hodzi was brother to Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi.

“It is with sadness that I learnt the death of my brother Douglas due to Covid-19 related complications. He seemed fit,” Hodzi told The Herald Tuesday morning.

“A qualified radio technician for more than 20 years is a retired Zimbabwe Republic Police Chief Inspector based in Gweru,” he said.

Hodzi joined the ZRP in 1993 as a two-way radio technician. He rose through the ranks and served the police force for 20 years, retiring in 2013.

A product of Ascot Secondary School in Gweru, Hodzi studied at the Harare Polytechnic and also at the TelOne Centre for Learning in Belvedere.

He was a respected figure in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering fields.

Funeral arrangements are taking place in Gweru where Douglas is set to be laid to rest on a date to be advised.

Hodzi is survived by his wife and three children.

On 2 August, Zimbabwe recorded 1309 new Covid-19 cases and 53 deaths.

Zimbabwe has to date had 110 855 confirmed cases, including 79 420 recoveries and 3 635 deaths. A total of 1 674 710 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19. □
