MDC Alliance president President Nelson Chamisa has described his deputy Tendai Biti as a true freedom fighter and a valuable asset to the opposition party who will liberate Zimbabweans from a “wicked leadership”.
Chamisa made the remarks while celebrating the birthday of Biti on Friday. Biti turned 55.
In his congratulatory message, Chamisa said: “Friends and family, please join me in wishing a happy birthday to a brother, a comrade, a freedom fighter, a workaholic and human rights defender Baba vaTawanda, Biti Tendai.
“We’re together in these trenches to make Zimbabwe great. We thank God for the gift you are. Tinosvika chete (We’ll eventually get there).”
Born and raised in Dzivarasekwa suburb in Harare in 1966, Biti has become a fierce opponent of the Zanu-PF led Government and was the last MDC official in 2009 to agree to a Government of National Unity with Robert Mugabe long after all other party leaders including Morgan Tsvangirai had okayed a unity administration.
This was after the violent 2008 elections in which Zanu-PF lost the first round of voting to Tsvangirai, before unleashing an orgy of violence in the second round, thereby losing legitimacy even in the SADC region.
Biti was then released from jail on a charge of announcing his own party’s election results for the 2008 elections. He was appointed Finance Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013.
After the MDC was walloped by Zanu-PF in the 2013 elections, Biti crossed paths with Tsvangirai and left the opposition party with nearly 20 legislators who Tsvangirai subsequently recalled from Parliament. When his party hit hard ground, Biti walked back to Tsvangirai under the MDC Alliance banner later in 2016.
Meanwhile, Chamisa has predicted what he called the fall of wicked leadership which is troubling innocent souls.
“Do you not know that from of old, since man was placed on the earth, the triumph of the wicked is brief, short and the joy of the godless momentary?” Chamisa said, writing on Twitter on Saturday.
“Though his arrogance reaches the heavens,
and his head touches the clouds, he will perish forever, like his own dung;those who had seen him will ask, ‘Where is he?’Job 20:4-7. Sabbath showers to you dear friends! Happy Sabbath. God is in it.”
Chamisa is a church pastor who critics say has a weakness of mixing up his politics with religious beliefs. – HOURLYHITS.COM □
