MDC-Alliance vice-president Tendai Biti has revealed that the obsession president Emmerson Mnangagwa has on MDC-Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa, is because he is scared of the youthful leader.
Biti wrote on his Twitter handle that Mnangagwa will do anything to destroy the country’s largest opposition party.
Since coming to power in November 2017, the Mnangagwa administration has embarked and invested resources to discredit Chamisa.
Biti’s remarks come a few days after Chamisa claimed that he will be the country’s next president in 2023 following the presidential election victory of Zambia’s opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema over the outgoing Edgar Lungu.
Mnangagwa has however dismissed Chamisa’s claim as a dream.
“This man is now desperate. He lives in fear of the pending doom of 2023. He is so obsessed with our President Nelson Chamisa. He will manufacture lies and propaganda to destroy us. He will create puppets and capture institutions. He will amend the constitution,” Biti wrote on his timeline.
Added Biti: “He will pour millions, distribute largesse in form of farms, mines, vehicles, houses, inputs, US$, and other loot. He will use force, violence and the law to create fear. BUT it won’t save him. We are clear. We stand with our people, our President @nelsonchamisa and our party @mdczimbabwe.”
President Mnangagwa has engineered amending the constitution to remain in power. He has also used state institutions to intimidate Chamisa’s outfit.
