A 16-year-old girl died in Sanyati after she was brutally assaulted by her sister’s husband who accused her of promiscuity and drug abuse.
Police say Jestina Sakala was brutally assaulted by her brother-in-law Takudzwa Msimanga, aged 30, at Godden Farm in Sanyati, Mashonaland West province. The assault took place on 22 August, and she died three days later from her wounds.
Confirming the case, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said police were worried with the cases of murder involving close relatives or friends.
He said in another case, a 39-year-old Bikita village fatally assaulted his 81-year-old father on 24 August, accusing him of bringing misfortune into the village. William Kuwanda assaulted Mberi Kuwanda in Majecha village, leading to his death.
In yet another case, police have arrested a 29-year-old man from Mamina after he fatally assaulted his brother-in-law during a misunderstanding over beer.
56-year-old Philimon Mudzinge died from his wounds following some bashing at the hands of Shame Zorwa.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, police in Harare are investigating a case in which a company called Silver Link Investment was selling fuel without a licence in Waterfalls.
Four tankers which had 30 000 litres of petrol and one with 5000 litres of diesel were found at the company’s premises, and have since been impounded. □
