A HARARE resident lost cash and other belongings to robbers who pounced on him just after he had jumped skipped the border into Zimbabwe from South Africa.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying the 30-year-old was robbed this week early morning Tuesday.
“On 31 August 2021 at about 0500 hours, a Harare man (30) was robbed of cash amounting to ZAR 41 500, various clothes and a J4 cellphone by two unknown suspects at a bush area near Limpopo View, Beitbridge.
“The victim had entered the country from South Africa through an illegal entry point,” said Nyathi.
He reminded members of the public to comply with COVID-19 regulations and use authorised ports of entry and exit on the country’s borders.
Border jumping and smuggling continue across the country, with hard-pressed citizens trying to evade the law to make money.
In a related matter, police on Sunday nabbed eight suspects in Chirundu for smuggling and recovered 10x90kgs and 2x50kgs sacks of clothes.
Police say the contraband was found stashed in a bush near Tiger Safari. The suspects later claimed ownership of the goods and were subsequently arrested. □
