TWO gun-totting robbers held a whole village hostage in Muzarabani and used the fear of the gun to rob the villagers of various property worth almost US$5,000.
The incident took place in Dzivamupamba Village, Muzarabani, this week Monday, where two armed assailants held a whole village hostage.
Police have confirmed the incident, saying investigations so far have revealed the type of gun used as 41 spent cartridges have been recovered.
“Police recovered 41 spent bore bullet heads on the scene and investigations so far indicate that the suspects could be using a 12 Bore shotgun or a Mossberg shortgun,” ZRP national spokesperson Paul Nyathi said in a statement.
“This follows a robbery incident which occurred at Dzivamupamba Village, Muzarabani on Monday, 30 August 2021, where two unknown suspects armed with an unidentified riffle besieged villagers and stole property valued at US$ 4 827.”
Nyathi urged members of the public to report all suspected firearm holders to the Police for verification of firearm licences and thwart incidences of robbery in communities.
Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise of late, but few of the incidents have so far been targeted at villagers. □
