SIX members of an apostolic sect died after they were stabbed early this morning while attending an all night prayer at a shrine in Redcliff near Kwekwe.
The suspect, a 26-year-old local resident, went on a rampage for an undisclosed reason and attacked the congregants with a kitchen knife, three spears, a hoe and an axe handle.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which took place around 03.00hrs this Saturday.
He said Police believe the suspect has a mental illness history.
“The ZRP reports that a 26 year old man stabbed six people to death and injured four others on 9 October 2021 at around 0300 hrs at Stoneclere, Rutendo suburb in Redcliff, after a suspected mental illness while attending an all night prayer at a local apostolic shrine.
“Police arrested the suspect and recovered a hoe, axe, kitchen knife and three spears. Investigations are in full swing. More details will follow in due course,” Nyathi said.
