TWO Roman Catholic priests serving at St Theresa Mission in Rusape died on the same day last week Thursday.

Rev Fr Arnold Itayi Maringe and Rev Fr Thomas Saina both passed on 14 October at the mission which is located just outside Rusape in Makoni District of Manicaland. They succumbed to Covid-19 complications.

The two late priests were buried at Triashill Mission Shrine near Kriste Mambo Secondary School, just off the Rusape-Nyanga Highway on Monday.

Rusape-based farmer and politician Patrick Chinamasa, who is also a Catholic, says the death of the two was “a dark cloud (which) hung over the Catholic Diocese of Mutare”.

“What a tragic loss to the St Theresa Community in particular and the Catholic Church in general,” said Chinamasa, a Zanu PF Politburo member.

“The two priests made enormous contribution to ministering to the spiritual needs of the Communities under their charge and to the evangelisation of the Word of God.

“I offer my sincerest condolences to Sekuru Bishop Paul Horan of Mutare Diocese and to the families of the departed priests and to the entire clergy and religious family of Mutare Diocese,” said Chinamasa.
