FORMER Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union(ZCTU) leaders have been sucked in a US$500 000 scandal, emanating from a donation the union got from South Africa in 2014.
Former ZCTU President, Peter Mutasa and the organisation’s incumbent Secretary-General, Japhet Moyo have been accused of prejudicing the union of thousands of dollars.
According to a statement recorded at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) recently by a member of the union, Thomas Masvingwe, the ZCTU in 2014 received US$500 000 from the Southern African Clothing and Textiles Union to purchase properties.
Contacted for comment, Moyo said the funds benefitted ZCTU though they did not come directly into its coffers.
ZACC Spokesperson, Commissioner John Makamure said the commission will consider the matter and take appropriate action.
“If the matter is reported, the commission in line with section 265 of the constitution, which guides its mandate will consider the matter and take appropriate action.”
The government has been grappling with non-governmental organisations that have been receiving funding from foreign organisations with a sinister view.
