A 16-YEAR-OLD Form 4 girl was allegedly raped while on her way to write the final ZIMSEC Ordinary Level examinations.
The incident took place on 15 December last year in the Kinsale area in Zvishavane, Midlands Province.
The matter came to light when a Zvishavane herd boy (20) appeared before Gweru regional magistrate Christopher Maturure facing one count of rape.
State Prosecutor Eggrina Matutu told the court that on the stated date at around 11AM, the girl, whose name cannot be published to protect her identity, was on her way to school when she ket the accused person.
The accused was at Kinsale grazing lands in Zvishavane herding cattle, and he started following the girl.
The court heard that the accused person caught up with the girl and then forcibly got hold of her blouse and ripped it open.
Accused then dragged the victim into the bush, threatened her with an okapi knife before ordering her to remove all her clothes. In fear, the victim complied.
The herd boy allegedly went on to push the victim to the ground and raped her once.
The court also heard that while the accused person was getting dressed, the victim stood up and ran away naked to a nearby homestead where she was given a dress to cover herself.
A report was made to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Maturuee remanded him in custody to January 10 for continuation of the trial.
