PUBLIC mass transporter, the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) has hiked its fares for its urban transportation service.
According to the new fares schedule set to come into operation this Wednesday, fares have been increased from ZW$50 to ZW$80 for buses and ZW$100 for commuter omnibuses which were charging ZW$80.
ZW$50 is equal to US$0,25 gauging by the parallel market rates which are used by the majority of the transacting public.
The fare increase will come as a further strain to the commuting public which is already struggling to raise money to meet current fares.
The increases also come at a time when parents have to fork out more money to meet their school children’s fares following the opening of the schools this past week.
