The horrific road accident which occurred this Thursday afternoon in Rusape has left thirty passengers injured while one death was confirmed.
In a statement Thursday evening, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said some of the injured are in critical condition which occurred just 5km outside Rusape.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred today at around 1600 hours at the 165 km peg along Harare-Mutare road near Rusape where one person died while 30 passengers were injured with eight of them in critical condition.
“The driver of a Tenda bus with 50 passengers on board tried to overtake another vehicle resulting in the bus veering off the road before overturning,” Nyathi said, adding that more details will be released in due course.
The Tenda Bus was heading to Mutare from Harare when it overturned and dragged on the tarmac. One of the passengers, Enoch Zhungu, who sustained minor injuries, told ZBC TV that the driver was stopped by police as he was overtaking a haulage truck.
Zhungu says the driver then lost control of the bus as he tried to return to his lane.
According to a ZBC TV report, ZBC TV report, the injured were were retrieved removed from the wreckage into ambulances and ferried to hospital.
The deceased was said to have been trapped in the wrecked metals.
