SCAMMERS masquerading as the widow of Elvis Nyathi have been ripping oft unsuspecting Zimbabweans in South Africa of their hard-earned cash.
Zimbabwean immigrant Nyathi, 43, was stonned and burnt to death on 6 April 2022 in Diepsloot, Johannesburg for not having a passport by members of the infamous Operation Dudula vigilante group.

But in South Africa, some scammers are reportedly appealing for help in WhatsApp groups of mainly the Zimbabwean community in South Africa using her name.
The matter came to light after messages started circulating widely, until some journalists who know of Mrs Nyathi’s present location and circumstances queried the messages.
The message with which the scammers are using to to steal in the name of the suffering widow:
“I’m Elvis Nyathis widow wife. Elvis Nyathi who was murdered burnt alive by thugs in Diepsloot. I’m now residing back home (in SA). I came yesterday to move with my belongings back home. Please help me with that little to take my property at home. Thanks.”
Vetetan broadcaster Ezra Tshisa Sibanda alerted the public of the scams which je described as insensitive and heartless.
“There are scammers masquerading as Elvis Nyathi’s widow asking for money in South Africa. The senseless, insensitive, heartless and cruel fools have scammed unsuspecting people who parted with their hard earned cash believing the message circulating was from Mrs Nyathi,” said Sibanda.
The fraudsters are using the numbers +27 63 929 4722 to ask for mobile money donations.
Added Sibanda: “Please ignore any message which claims Elvis Nyathi’s widow is in South Africa asking for money. The mother of four remains in Zimbabwe at Ntabazinduna where she has a home but struggling to make ends meet with her children.
“We appeal for help from well wishers and kind people out there to support this family.”
