SAMANTHA Ruvimbo Dzapata, the Harare lady who was callously murdered in a shooting rage by a city dealer, was praying hard that she would not die, it has emerged.
Tafadzwa Murengwa, who operated as a “foreign currency dealer” around Ximex Mall and was popularly known as Boss Pangolin, shot and killed Samantha Dzapata in the morning of Friday before taking his life at night the same day.
Murengwa had just been released from police cells on Thursday after assaulting his late girlfriend over cheating allegations.
Samantha went ahead and pressed for a peace order against the overtly possessive Murengwa, but leaked chats have revealed that she felt Tafadwzwa would kill her some day.
“Ndakarohwa ne jack remota ndaudza bamudiki venyu kuti handichade (He hit me with car jack after I told him I wanted out of the relationship),” Samantha said in one of the messages.
She revealed that Murengwa has a huge collection of her nudes which he apparently intended to use to against her should she end the relationship. Some of the nudes were taken while Samantha was cooking, she alleged.
“I called the blood of Jesus,” said Samantha. “I prayed ndikati Satan, I am not going to die.”

Murengwa went into hiding after committing the crime and was found several hours’ later unconscious in his car in Shawasha by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) detectives.
“The ZRP confirms that Tafadzwa Russell Murengwa (29) who was wanted for the callous murder of Samantha Ruvimbo Dzapata (28) in Harare on 29/07/22, committed suicide by drinking Dichlorvos 100 EC Insecticide in Gletwin area, Shawasha Hills, Harare last night,” the ZRP said.

“The police recovered the Toyota Aqua vehicle, a 0.38 Webley Revolver loaded with four spent cartridges and one live round at the scene.
“The late Samatha Dzapata’s cellphone was recovered at Zindoga Shopping Centre, Waterfalls where the suspect had left it with a certain man.”

Murengwa is said to have died on admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
After killing Dzapata, Murengwa sent messages explaining that his rocky relationship with the deceased had taken a toll on him emotionally and financially.
In a bid to save his relationship, Murengwa claims he spent almost US$3 000 in the past two weeks alone pampering her. Pictures of the two having a good time in holiday resorts also went viral.

“The problems started again before we went to Victoria Falls for a holiday when she hung up on a video call from her lover.
“I confronted her but we went ahead with the trip after I forgave her,” he said in the recording. We had another nasty fight after I realised she was still chatting with that guy and I hacked her phone. I confronted this man until Samantha decided to dump me for the guy.”
Murengwa was released from police cells on Thursday after assaulting his late girlfriend over the cheating claims.
“I then went to Waterfalls (on Friday) where she was staying with her sister along Simon Mazorodze Road,” he said. “She started acting all funny, throwing stones around.
“I tried to reason with her until I became emotional and shot her while she was holding onto her sister.”
