CMED Private Limited is one of the first companies in the country to introduce a 100% electric car and the car has become an instant hit with car hirers.
CMED public relations officer, Tarisai Mugombi said at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show in Harare last week that that the vehicle is assembled by BYD EV Centre Africa..
CMED which runs car hire services uses the car for hire and also uses it as a shuttle between Robert Mugabe International Airport and Harare City.
Although Mugombi would not disclose the cost of the car she said it is far cheaper to run than the fuel-driven car.
Instead of adding petrol or diesel to the car, one only needs to charge the car’s 530kg battery.
Once charged the 70KW per hour battery can travel 522km, said Mugombi who is an expert on the electric vehicle.
