Job Description

Main Purpose: To ensure that the employee understands the minimum requirement of the given job.

Key Performance Areas:

Assembly Jigs (T2T and HPH) must always be producing good product.
Maintain discipline i.e. timekeeping, attendance, and quality of workmanship.
Quality control documentation i.e. Weld maps updated on Weldex, Welder qualification, weld process, booking of NDT and QC inspections.
Challenge weld failure interpretation where necessary.
Plan daily work activities according to HPH schedule, i.e. packing of new serpentines, preparation and welding in jigs (T2T), heat treatment and X ray booking, pre-inspection of serpentine fit-ups, request error correction viz doglegs, cosmetics, welder stamps, inserts etc. Check large bore fit-ups, optimize the weld process by selecting the welders through in-shop pre-qualification and constant monitoring.
Resource allocation – assign people to specific duties per HPH assembly areas and T2T, i.e. Chargehand, Welders and Operators.
Resource planning – ensure that all tools are readily available and in good condition, i.e. welding machines and accessories, hand tools (wire brushes, files etc.), portable electrical equipment (grinders, pencil grinders), gas equipment (empty bottles are returned to store and refills requested timeously).
Ensure production reports are completed.
Ensure that the Welders/jig have enough work for at least three days.
Housekeeping to be maintained – all stubs and extra welding consumables to be cleared from workshop daily.
Check for saved material and return it to store (MRV form).
Check and close argon valves at end of shift.
Secure all portable gas bottles and close valves when not in use.
Check and report employee attendance at work station.
Check scrap bins – empty when full.
Check that booked rows are completed on and ready for release.
Performance targets: 5 rows per week / jig and 120 T2T butts per week. WRR of 3%, RWC responsibility for welding.
Report and record daily hours per person and absenteeism.
Request and maintain buffer levels at T2T.
Train and mentor welders and welding operators, especially on automated welding
Train, mentor and guide large bore welders
Ensure that all quality checks are in order for the final release of the welding.
Maintain jigs and tools.
Employee care – foster a culture of team work, mutual respect, quality work and discipline in the work force by setting the example and by leading from among the group.
Any other job related duties as required from time to time.

Preferred Requirements:

Grade 12/N3 or equivalent qualification.
Qualified Welder with welding supervision qualifications (Welding Inspection Level 1 or International Welding Practitioner).
6 Years’ experience as a Welder of which 1 year should have been in a supervisory capacity.
Good understanding and practical application of automated welding machines and processes.
Knowledge of Health and Safety standards and requirements.
Willing to work shifts and overtime as and when required.
Computer literate (MS Office).
