Job Purpose
The incumbent of this role will be responsible to reduce and manage the risk of aviation safety hazards, occurrences, incidents, serious incidents, and more important prevent aircraft damage/accidents through the continuous process of conducting safety checks, audits and inspections. The role will provide support in ensuring Safety and compliance.
Lastly, as part of the Safety team the role will be required to support the optimization of the Group Safety function by ensuring Technical Safety and compliance.
Principal Accountabilities
Demonstrates an understanding of the Safety’s strategy and plan relevant to own work outputs
Implements department strategy within own area of responsibility
Provides recommendations to support the implementation of the departmental strategy and plan
Contributes to the budget management and containment of costs
Applies cost saving initiatives continuously
Provides recommendations on profitability
Oversees the correct application of processes and systems in area of responsibility
Utilises resources in area of responsibility/ own area of work in a time and cost-effective manner
Utilises technology to enhance internal and external customer expectations
Executes work outputs according to customer requirements
Adheres to Governance and Risk Management policies, processes and systems
Delivers on regular, irregular and timeous reporting of information to key stakeholders
Participates in continuous optimisation programmes, projects and initiatives
Ensure the Airline meets its corporate and departmental goals and objective related to aviation safety
Support the team with the process of conducting Incidents/Accidents investigations and the monitoring of implemented corrective actions resulting from the investigations
Assist in maintaining the safety management programme in line with the airline Safety Management System
Assist in the event of an aircraft disaster and other crisis situations
Conduct daily operations inspection and compile reports as required
Support and assist with the re-writing and maintaining of the Safety Management Systems Manual (SMSM) as per regulated SACAA regulation as well as International Civil Aviation Organisation and IATA (International Air Transport Association) Operational Safety Audits (IOSA) standards a Starr Alliance requirement
Assist in conducting safety audits and third-party audits and compiling of audit reports
Assist in maintaining an effective safety corrective action programme and schedule
Maintain a supporting role on all Safety meetings
Assist with Safety training programs
Ensure all safety reports are processed
Assisting with the development and publishing of Safety bulletins and safety notices
Assist in conducting safety studies and research. Assist with the reviewing and evaluating applicable research material and results of industry seminars of interest to Safety
Assist with the maintenance of a Safety Library
Assist with the compiling of Safety presentations
Assist with hazard identification and risk assessment
Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Aviation Safety Risk Register
Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Technical Recommendation Logs
Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Management of Change process within the organization to ensure optimal safety performance
Assist in the promoting of Technical Safety by means of training, communiqués, presentations and promotions
Supporting of the management of all Safety Reports
Conduct line operations safety inspections/audits and safety audits on third parties
Compile safety audit reports
Assist in maintaining an effective safety corrective action programme and schedule
Monitor Corrective Action Plan and mitigation strategies

Qualifications & Experience
Grade12 (Matric) or equivalent at NQF level 4
A 3-year diploma in A/C Mechanical or Avionics / Safety Management at NQF level 6
Higher Tertiary Qualifications in Maintenance will be an advantage
Hold / have held Commercial Pilots License (Air Transport Pilot)
Aircraft Maintenance License will be an advantage
Certificate in Auditing
Aviation Medicine (AVMED)
Certificate in Human Factors
Related Tertiary Qualifications (Advantage)
Valid unendorsed driver’s license Code B
At least 2 – 3 years’ operational experience in Aircraft Maintenance or Quality Assurance
Knowledge and Skills
