Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires an established Barber for their Lynwood Lane salon. The role will provide a range of hair care services, including shampooing, cutting, colouring, styling and blow-drying. Ensure the salon product inventory is sufficient. Note: there is NO chair cost at Dis-Chem Salons.

Minimum Requirements…

Essential:

Grade 12 / Matric
Certificate or Diploma in Hairdressing/ Barbering
Minimum of 12 months’ relevant salon related working experience
Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

More than 1 year Barber/Hair Stylist related experienceBarber/ Hairdressing qualification including, but not limited to National diploma in Hairdressing or Barbering

Job Specification…

Cutting and fading hair

Beard cutting and shaping that is (close shave with a blade, hot towel shave.)Waxing nose and ears as well as beard waxingHead , Scalp & shoulder massage at basin or in barber chairGood customer service.Keep abreast with the latest hair and beauty industry trends.

Ensure waiting clients are comfortable by providing magazines and refreshments.
Give clients advice and product information about the hair care products the salon has to offer.


Maintain and manage appointments.
Maintain and ensure client records are kept current.
Demonstrate and sell styling products to clients.
Ensure display shelves have sufficient products on them.

Competencies

Essential:

Possess general knowledge of the chemical composition and properties of the substances used, and the chemical processes the substances may undergo (i.e. understanding chemical reactions, production techniques and disposal methods)
Strong command of the English language
Analyse client’s need, taking hair and skin type into account
Be a team player, have good customer relations
Be deadline and target driven

Advantageous:

Any additional salon equipment training
Bilingual

Special conditions of employment:

Willing and able to work retail hours
Arm/hand control, stability
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Manual dexterity and strength (the ability to grip and manipulate tools)
Finger dexterity (the ability to grasp and manipulate very small objects)
Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
South African citizen; or valid work permit
Clear credit and criminal records
