The ARC-Vegetables Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP) seeks to appoint highly experienced and d persons to the following positions at Roodeplaat in Gauteng Province:
LABORATORY ASSISTANT – IN VITRO GENEBANK x 3 (12 Months fixed term contract)
Salary R 130 007 — 195 014 all- inclusive remuneration package
Key Performance Areas:


• Function in a team responsible for conservation and maintenance of accessions in the ARC-VIMP Nat Public Goods In Vitro Genebank collection consisting Of vegetatively propagated roots and tuber c industrial and medicinal crop species) using plant tissue culture methods;
• Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research personnel to ensure successful of research projects in compliance with set standards;
• In vitro propagation, multiplication and maintenance of plants;
• Perform correct labelling, culturing and tracking of plant materials and conduct checks to validate;
• Capturing of procedural data on a relevant system in line with quality assurance measures;
• Use of proper aseptic techniques for initiation and sub culturing of plant materials; Assists in optimising research and administrative processes in the Genebank;
• Accurate, correct and timeous completion of individual project goals, as well as set tasks in line with the 0 corporate strategy Of the ARC;
• Maintain equipment in such a manner that optimal life span is ensured; Utilise material and equipment in a cost-effective manner, Adheres to quality standards;
• Provides verbal and written feedback on work activities to supervisor/s;
• Ensure that own and team deadlines are met;
• Assist in training junior staff;
• Visible compliance with HR policies and procedures;
Visible compliance with Health and Safety regulations/procedures.

Requirements:
• Grade 12;
• Knowledge of plant tissue culture procedures and plant production through micro propagation would be advantage;
• Knowledge of laboratory and equipment operations. Experience in a tissue culture laboratory or any Ott laboratory would be an advantage;
• Although this position is mainly laboratory based, the person assigned to this position will also be required assist in the glasshouse and outdoors when necessary, during sampling and rejuvenation of accessions;
Writing and reading skills and ability to accurately record and label or number samples are essential;
Ability to work in a team and independently/unsupervised and is reliable, self-motivated, and a hard-worke Knowledge of computer programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) would be an advantage; Valid driver’s licence.
