Western Cape Government Is Hiring: Administrative Officer- Disaster Risk Reduction Planning

Job Purpose

The Department of Local Government, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to assist in the coordination, monitoring and support of disaster management functions in order to implement disaster risk reduction. This position is stationed in Tygerberg.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification); A minimum of 3 years’ relevant administration experience.

Recommendation

An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (National Diploma/B-Degree or higher); A valid code B (or higher) driving licence.

Note: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport may also apply.

Key Performance Areas

Provide administrative support in the following areas: Risk reduction planning component; The management of a comprehensive disaster risk and vulnerability assessments; The establishment and maintenance of a Spatial Information System; The implementation of an early warning system; The implementation of special intervention programmes.

Competencies

Knowledge of the following: Disaster Management Act (Act 57 of 2002 as amended) and related policies and guidelines; Understanding of disaster management systems and procedures as applied in all three spheres of government with the focus on disaster risk reduction; Human Resource Management; Financial Management; Strategic planning; Proven computer literacy; Communication (written and verbal) skills; Ability to work under pressure.
