Minopex Is Hiring: Training Officer – Phola Plant – South Africa



This position will be based at the Phola Plant close to Ogies in Mpumalanga

The purpose of this position is to equip staff with the knowledge and practical skills to carry out work-related tasks, and to help with the ongoing, long-term improvement of employees’ skills to enable them to fulfil their potential within the Plant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with Minopex Health and Safety responsibilities and legal and operational requirements
Work with plant line managers to assess the skills and knowledge within the plant and determine what training is needed to grow and retain these skills (skills gap analysis)
Identify training and development needs within the plant through job analysis, appraisal and regular consultation with Supervisors, Plant Managers and the Human Resources department (training needs analysis)

Design and expand training and development programs based on the needs of the plant and the individual

Produce / develop training materials for in-house coursesFacilitate training courses as well as on-the-job training in the plant on a needs basisAttend client meetings and Visible Coaching Leadership (VCL) as and when requiredEnsure that the Training Centre is ISO compliantEnsure that statutory training requirements are met

Monitor and review the progress of trainees through questionnaires and discussions with the Supervisors and the Plant Manager

Manage the delivery of training and development programsAmend and revise programs as necessary, in order to adapt to changes occurring in the plantAssist Supervisors to solve specific training problems, either on a one-to-one basis or in groupsHave an understanding of e-learning techniques, and where relevant, being involved in the creation and/or delivery of e-learning packagesUpdating of the training database and employee training files / records and matrices

Ensure training complies with MQA and ISO standards and practices

Work according to the Mine Code of Practice and report any deviationsPrepare progress reports and any other reports as required by management and maintain employees’ training recordsManage training programs to ensure they are delivering resultsPrepare training schedules, allocate instructors to different courses and monitor costs to keep programs within budgetApprove training orders on the Orb systemMonitor and update training actions on the Isometrix systemDrive and Support Minopex’s retention of BBBEE certification through compliant training practicesManagement of the site-based training team ensuring that KPI’s are set and monitored, and that PDP’s are in place

Qualification Requirements:

Grade 12

Certificate in Training & Development (ETDP level 5 certificate)Assessors Certificate Moderators Certificate will be advantageousA valid Trade Certificate in a Mechanical / Electrical Engineering discipline or a Mineral Processing Certificate will be advantageous .Registered SDF (advantageous)

Experience and Skills Requirements:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a training environment in the mining or mineral processing industryKnowledge of Isometrix / HSEC systemsKnowledge of Firefly systemKnowledge of ORB systemExperience in Engineering / Minerals skills programs, learnerships & qualifications.Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 / ISO 45000:2018 / ISO 14001:2015

English language proficiencyTime management skills

Supervisory skills

Presentation and report writing skillsMust have good interpersonal skills and must be able to work effectively with colleagues, trainees, supervisor and managers

Strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess training needs and recommend appropriate solutionsValid Driver’s Licence
