Job Description
We are looking for a seasoned Multimedia Journalist with a passion for digital news to join our video team in Johannesburg, producing original daily video content for News24 and assisting on multimedia projects.
Main responsibilities:
Source, shoot and edit news videos on a daily basis;
Produce breaking news stories that are short, engaging and shareable;
Write scripts, headlines and text to accompany videos;
Assist with publishing videos on the News24 platforms;
Assist in sourcing and executing in-depth features, investigative stories and documentaries;
Assist with podcasting and other multimedia stories;
Maintaining a strong diary with original story ideas;
After-hours, weekend work and travel will be required at times, and will be recouped.
Required skills and attributes:
Great technical knowledge of camera and audio equipment;
A passion for news and current affairs as well as excellent general knowledge;
Confidence in producing stories under pressure where speed and accuracy are vital;
Excellent English-language writing and communication skills;
Strong interviewing skills;
A solid network of contacts;
Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop and basic After Effects);
A self-motivated team player that can take initiative when needed.
Skills that would be an advantage:
Experience in live streaming;
Experience in Adobe After Effects;
The ability to do voiceovers and on-camera work.
Qualifications and experience:
Matric/Grade12/SAQA Equivalent qualification;
Tertiary qualification in Journalism/Media Studies;
Multimedia Qualification an advantage;
At least three years’ experience in shooting and editing video in a news environment;
Valid driver’s licence.
