SERITI COAL Is Hiring:Safety Superintendent – Gauteng,South Africa

The role:

The role is responsible for monitoring safety compliance of the operations / service department, thus ensuring that legal compliance in terms of safety is maintained – ensuring the implementation, co-ordination and maintenance of the Seriti Safety Way and OHSAS 18001.

The duties will include but are not limited to:

Confirm to legal requirements and duties of 2.17.1 and 2.17.4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act
Lead / participate in site safety inspections giving instructions to the Safety Officer regarding the inspections and conduct Visible Felt Leadership through ensuring that the inspections are done properly and to required standards as well as signing off the logbook
Compile Safety Superintendent month-end report and oversee incident and accident investigations through identify accidents deemed to be investigated and instruct the Safety Officer to conduct these ensures that the investigations are conducted according to the Seriti Investigation procedure
Report review and final sign off high potential incidents and Injuries
Co-ordinate and participate in safety audits for Operations / Service Department
Extensive experience in health and safety as a Safety officer
Compile annual Safety Improvement Plan ensuring plans are in place for Operations and subordinates
Ensure compliance of plan with corporate requirements
Co-ordinate and participate in Risk-Assessments for Operations
Develop and Implement baseline and issue-based risk assessments
Apply hierarchy of control to all risk assessments as low as reasonably possible (ALARP)
Effective people management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
Evaluate requirements of departmental staff, ensure that individuals are provided with the correct development opportunities, evaluate training courses as well as oversee the development of training material
Assist with the recruitment and selection of new employees and graduates ensuring the right people for the vacancies
Financial budgeting and Management
Ensure that costs allocated for engineering tasks within specified operation are controlled within the prescribed budget and compares with internationally accepted benchmarks
Ensure cost saving
Approve budgetary expenditures within authorisation limits
Control capital expenditure for improvement programmes

You will need:

National Diploma in Safety Management
BSc / BTech in Mining / Engineering / Safety Management or a related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience Mining or Technical professional with relevant Safety training and sound performance record inclusive of 3 years in middle management position
Computer literacy (MS Office)
Valid driver’s license
In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
