Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) seeks a Clinical Laboratory Intern. The Laboratory Intern will work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team in AHRI focusing on TB and HIV research. The candidate will report jointly to the Laboratory Supervisor and CTU Laboratory Supervisor and be based at AHRI Somkhele campus. The incumbent will be required to assist in the performance of various laboratory-based duties and functions for various research studies and clinical trials undertaken by AHRI. Responsibilities include receiving and processing (including PBMC isolation) of various biological samples from different studies/trials, preparing samples for short-term storage, transport, long-term storage of specimens, transport, assembly of specimen collection kits, testing and assisting with general housekeeping and maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and instruments in accordance with health and safety and company policies and procedures and GCLP and ISO15189 requirements. The position is based at the Somkhele campus but may be required to work in Durban periodically.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

B Tech or BSc Honours in Medical Microbiology, Virology or another related and relevant field.
Minimum Experience

Experience and proficiency with computer and working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office.
Advantageous

Some practical experience in a laboratory will be advantageous.
Some practical experience with basic laboratory equipment will be advantageous.
