Job Description:

As an Occupational Hygiene Assistant your responsibilities will include:

Setting daily, weekly, and monthly confined space management and occupational hygiene (incl. public health) routine schedules
Promoting health and occupational hygiene awareness as well as ventilation awareness
Advising on changes to plans and schedules to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices
Preparation of sampling equipment and conducting Occupational Hygiene monitoring and sampling
Reporting on findings as part of the monitoring programme
Participate in investigations and follow-up actions to assist the process to find ways of mitigating these potential findings under the supervision of the Occupational hygiene Technologists/Hygienist
Conducting confined space measurements and clearances as per the confined space procedures and Standby schedule
Ensure execution of investigations with report completion
Monitoring ventilation media
Collecting, preserving and submitting samples
Conducting daily occupational hygiene and ventilation inspections and identifying risks and incidents during investigations
Recording Occupational Hygiene and Ventilation incidents
Conducting and participating in Audits
This role is in the Occupational Hygiene Department at a C2 level reporting to the Occupational Hygiene Technologist.

Qualifications:
Matric
COM Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Certificate in Basic Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene measurements
Advantageous:

Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH)
Studying towards an environmental health (occupational hygiene/public health) degree or diploma
Experience

At least 2 years in the Processing/Mining environment
Practical experience – at least 1 year must be within the Occupational Hygiene or Ventilation Management field.
Knowledge and Skills

Valid RSA Driver’s License
Computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, and other specialised technical programs
SHE Risk Assessment
