Spotify Is Hiring: Business Analyst Sub-Saharan Africa


As the Business Analyst for Sub Saharan Africa (SSA), you will be responsible for regional business insights and analysis across SSA with a focus on: tracking key business metrics, assessing full funnel user behavior and supporting in optimizing new growth channels, analyzing content consumption (Music and Podcasts) and editorial metrics, and on-going ad-hoc insights projects. You will support the growth in the key SSA priority markets by building positive relationships across the company and work closely with local functional leadership, reporting to the Market Strategy and Operations Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa.

This role will be based either in Johannesburg, South Africa or Lagos, Nigeria. This is only applicable with those currently holding the right to work in these markets.

What You’ll Do
Date tracking & Analysis:
Analyze key business and content metrics across the regions and develop insights to identify key gaps, opportunities for growth, and build insights to answer key problem statements for our consumers in the external landscape
Provide the SSA Leadership with the insights and knowledge needed to drive decisions and define strategy
Work with cross-functional stakeholders to bring data and insights to shape and inform the execution of initiatives across the business, including partnering with global teams to learn best practices and identify areas of collaboration
Develop data & insight templates for monthly and quarterly tracking & reporting, as well as localized Tableau/Looker dashboards
Support the Strategic Planning process by undertaking external macro and micro economic evaluations of key markets, consumer tech trends, and the competitive landscape with creation of presentations for ongoing business reviews and assessments
Maintain a culture of rigor and data curiosity across the team by striving to make the cross-functional team as data-driven as possible
Support and, at times, lead strategic insights projects
Periodically travel to key priority markets to build a foster better understanding of the markets and consumer/market/industry environment

Who You Are
You have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering, Statistics or a similar field or equivalent practical insights experience (Master/MBA is a plus)
You have at least 5+ years of experience with mixed data skill sets and approaches (analytics tools and data science); experience in a fast-growing internet/tech company and or consumer facing tech companies is a preferred. Music/Content Business a plus

You have strong SQL/Bigquery skills and intermediate programmatic expertise, in either of Python or R
You have strong analytical skills, including analysis /modeling, statistics, A/B testing, experimental design and automation and basic understanding of modeling techniques (e.g. regression models, clustering, classification, causal inference, etc) as well as basic understanding of financial modeling
You have experience with BI tools like Tableau/Looker

You are naturally inquisitive and proactive in exploring new data sets and passionate about translating business objectives into actionable analysis, and results into business recommendations
Ability to quickly distill large amounts of information into clear insights and recommendations, fully conversant in the latest digital and consumer trends (music industry a plus)
You have a passion for music/tech and have previously worked in an international work environment
You possess a flawless level of written and spoken English and have great communication skills
