ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:

(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

IMPORTANT:Please only apply for an internship if you fulfil the following two criteria:

(1) You have no close relative serving in the ILO.

(2) This is your first internship with the ILO (only one internship is permitted).

Learning areas

Assist in managing social media accounts(including Weibo, WeChat and WeChat Channels) on a regular basis; 

Assist in producing and editing infographic and multimedia products; 

Assist in planning, setting up and recording (video) interviews/speeches, podcasts whenever necessary; 

Photograph for meetings and/or activities (co-)hosted by ILO and partners; 

Categorize digital materials and upload to ILO’s digital inventory; 

Translate materials including but not limited to communication pieces, from English to Chinese and vice versa; 

Conduct daily scan of major news on new developments and policy announcements in labour and social policy areas, select news of sufficient value, and distribute them to concerned colleagues on a regular basis; 

Provide assistance/support to ILO activities and campaigns in China; 

Any other assignments required to support communication in the country, such as events set-up, media requests follow-up, etc…; 

Gather and process information of labour market both in China and abroad, and conduct desktop research and literature review, as required; 

Provide basic data description using EXCEL, SPSS etc., and draft research briefs to summarize the main findings of the data.

Required profile

Education

The candidate must be enrolled in the second or final year of a graduate degree programme, or in a higher degree programme, in communications, journalism, social sciences, law, economics, marketing and/or a related field.

Experience

Languages

Excellent command of English and Chinese, particularly good written skills

Competencies

Good design and multimedia skills and ability to use image and video editing software such as PhotoShop, Premiere/Final Cut, InDesign, Canva or equivalent software to achieve communication objectives

Ability to use social media to communicate messages. Social media experience, particularly WeChat operating experience preferred

Show willingness to acquire new knowledge

Ability to work as a member of a diverse team, combining autonomy and team spirit

Ability to produce quality results swiftly

Ability of critical thinking skills

Proficient in reading and understanding academic material, as well as basic research skills

The candidate must not have undertaken a previous internship with the ILO nor have previously worked for the ILO;

The candidate must not be a close relative of a serving ILO official.
