Responsibilities

What are we looking for?

Responsible for routine analytical and product quality tests

Lead base product collection from the production lines for development at pilot plant level.

Collaborate with product developers.

Support maintenance of pilot plant in accordance with 5 S

Daily Scale/balance verification

Weekly stock taking and communicating these needs to pilot plant manager.

Humidity Chamber water re-fill, drainage, and observation

Support R&D Tech/ New EHS representative on EHS initiatives (both local and onsite requirements- a few of which are ad hoc)

Food Safety- Ensure all cleaning records in seasoning area/chemical lab are up to date when facility is being used.

Monitor First aid box stock and re-stock at clinic when required.

Various ad hoc support requested by Lab manager.

Support Bev lab PD with pilot plant standards of operation

Online training to enhance business knowledge.

Conduct seasoning applications, ensuring in

specification salt results are attained.

Operation of packaging machine:

 -Film changes

-Sample coder

-X-ray calibration and learning new products

Conduct following Laboratory tests:

Salt Analysis

Oil Analysis

Bulk Density Analysis

Particle Size Analysis

Moisture Analysis

Plan and lead assigned R&D projects.

Compile project timelines and communicate to relevant teams to ensure required equipment and resources are available for use.

Plan resources for trials and when needed align priorities with Line Manager

Execute scale-up activities within PepsiCo owned Production Plants and pre-selected Co-manufacturers by working closely with Project lead.

Develop and prepare prototype samples under the direction of the project manager using safe and best practice operation of lab and pilot scale equipment.

Deliver concise, accurate and complete reporting on projects to Line Manager and Project Teams, with guidance on recommendations for ingredient, formulae, and process conditions.

Draft R&D technical data such as artwork specifications, process specifications and finished pack standards with approval from Project Manager

Work closely with Regulatory to ensure legal compliance.

Support the maintenance of all R&D Analytical Laboratory and Pilot Plant equipment.

Perform analytical tests (Both Manual & Automated): Moisture, Salt, Oil, FFA, PV, Sodium, Reducing Sugars, NIR related, Texture, Packaging Barrier Properties, Seal Strengths, Gas Chromatography etc.

Support Health and Safety Agenda for R&D and related activities

Support HACCP and/ Food Safety related activities

Qualifications

What will qualify you for this role?

Minimum Qualification: Successfully completed the Theoretical part of their studies in scientific field with> 70% Average and in there last year of (Biochemistry, Food Technology or Engineering)

South African citizen

Good technical and analytical skills, basic knowledge of statistics, ability to interpret data and distil into useful and actionable information.

Supportive team player with an accurate, methodical, tidy, and reliable approach

Excellent people skills

Results driven, demonstrate an ability to persevere and provide timely and direct feedback to others.

High degree of self-motivation combined with good organisational and interpersonal skills.

Eager to learn and use initiative, self-starter.

Ability to work independently and to deal with change and increasing complexity.

Integrity, Safeguard the Company’s designs, formulations, processes, and reputation in all matters.
