Purpose of Job
To ensure that agreed, on-specification, production volumes are achieved, efficiently and safely. To ensure that production contributes to the increase of the business growth. To lead and manage a production shift, ensuring the supply of products through the acquisition and effective innovative usage of resources. Continuously ensure adherence to all quality, safety and legal requirements. Continuously optimise processes to ensure maximum output. Ensure sustainable plant performances. Ensure equipment is operated within the OWAP principles. Align day-to-day shutdown and equipment outages with the value chain.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

  • Planning, control and management of operations/maintenance activity • Ensure effective execution of operations/maintenance activities • Ensure maximum task quality and efficiency, and overall effective use of equipment /opportunity • Manage and control costs (where allocated budget responsibility is assigned) • During emergencies, evaluate the abnormalities and take corrective action to avoid downtime, equipment damage and/or SHERQ incidents • Ensure own team adhere to operational/maintenance procedures and for people and plant Ensure production planning is scheduled optimally to maximise production output • Act on first occurrence performance problems, misconduct, disciplinary and grievance cases. • Performance management, manage performance of own team • Ensure sensitisation to diversity in the workplace • Team skill level, succession and career progression, get results through empowering others to act • Enable artisans to achieve competence for career progression • Coaching and technical training of own staff • Accountable for practical “declaration of competence” of employees to operate the plant • Ensures team motivation and team wellness • Lives company values and ensures compliance of team to the values • Facilitate effective Communication up and down from management and also within own and other stakeholder teams • Participate in the selection of staff (for own team) by being an active member on recruitment panels • Ensure standard operating procedures are applied • Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management Manage certain start-up and shutdown tasks • Participate (or conduct on own team) in potential deviation analysis, root cause analysis and risk assessments • Manage execution of the work permit system • Conduct Task Risk Assessments and ensure that team conducts Task Risk Assessments • Ensure compliance with relevant Sasol procedure, policies, legislation and business processes • Manages behaviour-based safety program • Ensure adherence to SHERQ legal standards and implement SHERQ processes for own area of responsibility • Ensure that the MOC process is followed, and that modified plant/maintenance procedures are implemented by artisans • Writing and reporting • Ensure resources are available on site • Understands customer requirements and ensures product/service meets customer requirements • Management of stakeholder relationships • Ensure smooth transition of work from own shift to next shift Liaison with service and support functions • Effective interaction with supporting activities • Identifies and supports inter-dependencies with own and other departments within the value chain • Give input into how to improve overall Equipment Effectiveness for the plant • Continuously applies new ideas/work methods to improve results Deals with human resistance to change in own area • Provide information/assist with projects with technical/support functions • Avail staff for training and development required due to the change initiative Ensure implementation of; organisational change initiatives within own team

Formal Education


Grade 12 or N3 with Maths, Science and English
NQF 4 Occupational Trade Qualification
Experience
At least 5 years experience as a Senior Process Artisan

Experience in Solidification and Packaging/Packline environment will be an added advantage
