Job Purpose

The position entails the Project Controller to ensure all activities relating to National Project activities are in line with client expectations, third-party service provider SOP and overall BIL’s project initiatives.  Day-to-day handling of project shipments, within contract and client requirements. From estimating to invoicing and query resolution. In addition to the usual Controller responsibilities, also includes billings, estimating, and multi-modal file handling. Handles both inbound and outbound cargo.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications:

Matric/Grade 12

Experience:

A keen interest in Freight Forwarding / Logistics Industry

Freight forwarding experience advantageous

Project shipment experience would be highly advantageous.

Estimate / quote submission

Follow instructions from senior controllers

Obtain estimates from service providers

Vet service provider service offering

Ensure costs are correct and in line with client requirements

Estimate submission and clarification to the prospective client

Follow up with client on potential business

Obtain order confirmation from client if successful.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge:

Estimating – Sea, Air, Import and export, General cargo, Abnormal, Out-of-gauge.

Planning – internal and external, national and international on operational level.

Coordination/control – internal, external, national, international.

Execution – according to contract parameters and guidelines and client expectations.

Vendor management – shipping lines, internal departments, transporters.

Customs – how to handle a certain shipment based on legislation and customer request.

Incoterm Knowledge – ability to interpret , advise and put across.

Accuracy / Numeric skills – in order to complete tenders efficiently and within company financial requirements.

Interpersonal skills – in order to handle team players within the project environment.

Commercial Skills – understand the time value of money.

Communication skills  – ability to put message across in correct / required manner.
