An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety Assistant at I&J Fishing, Cape Town Waterfront (CTF) in the Risk and Safety Department. The purpose of this role is to assist the Safety Officer within Cape Town Fishing to ensure Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance for the CTF site and its Vessel Fleet through the Management of Safety Systems, Policies, Procedures and the requirements as stipulated in the OHS Act & Regulations and SAMSA Act.

Key Performance Areas:
Maintain the Vessel’s Safety Management System
Conduct Internal Audits for Shorebase and Vessel Fleet
Conduct Quayside Safety Inspections and Walkabouts
Safety Management of External Service Providers/Contractors
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Policies and Procedures for the site.
Technical competencies:
OHS Act & Regulations and SAMSA Acts Knowlege
Vessel Safety Equipment knowledge
Maritime Safety Management System knowledge
Computer Literacy
SAP MP Module Knowledge
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
1 – 2 years’ experience in a Safety Representative role
IDEAL: 2 – 4 years’ experience in a vessel/marine environment
Qualifications:
Grade 12 / NQF 4
Safety Representative Course, Incident / Accident Investigation Course, Fire Fighting Course.
Special Requirements:
The incumbent will be required to work overtime (during Weekdays and Weekends) depending on Production Requirements, Vessel Turn Arounds and Vessel Outages. Work at sea when required and perform Standby Duties.
