Alstom Is Hiring: Electronics Repair Expert – South Africa

Purpose of the Job

Perform expertise, analyze test reports to diagnose the defect and define the correct repair activity for the encountered failures.

 Perform maintenance & debugging on test benches.

 Key user* about all test means (PACIS +ERTMS) interfaced with Test expert from Donor unit.

 Lead reliability investigations related to your allocated subsystems and coach the technicians.

Organization:

Reporting- The role reports to the  Site Operations Manager

Main office location: Randjespark – Midrand

Mobility: The job requires some mobility to client depots for investigations and technical support.

Internal & External Stakeholders 

Internal: TSSSA & MSA Industrial, Production/Depots operations, Supply Chain and Quality

External: Participating Units, PRASA activity on Depot , and some suppliers of equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or Masters Degree in Electrical engineering (Light current) in electronic systems with strong electronics background.

At least 10 years of experience in Manufacturing/Repairs and Test Industrialization with in electronic & Electrical engineering systems.

Desired Knowledge/Experience

Sound knowledge of electronics systems from design, maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting & investigations.

Familiarity with the Audio systems/Passenger Information System (PACIS) systems/signaling/Radio frequency/Avionics systems and all relative industrial and manufacturing processes (Assembly and Testing)

Certification IPC 7711/7721 or IPC A 610

Knowledge of electrical medium voltage systems like 3-phase systems, power modules & motors advantageous.

Knows rules and processes on electronic boards

mounting/unmounting components (CMS, go-through)

Brazing/welding processes

Varnishing/un-varnishing processes

Knowledge of MMIS tools : PLM / SAP(GSI)/Maximo / Service execution systems/ etc

Knowledge of Test environment : TestStand / Gemini / Derby.

Hi-pot  & burn-in test

Able to understand electric schemes & able to detect and isolate failures coming from process, product, test equipment

knows rules and procedures linked to ESD and EHS rules : self-inspection, habilitation, quality

 Able to perform 1st level maintenance of test equipment

Knowledge of electric/electronic safety rules

Main Responsibilities

Lead a team of electronics repairs

Lead investigations

Troubleshoot returned products

Give diagnosis and define repair process for each returned item from the train

Perform level 1 maintenance of the test benches

Develop trouble shooting trees for each product and sub-system

Share return of experience on fault finding with the design authorities m

Maintain and repair electronic equipment (replacement of modules)

Repair electronic boards respecting QCD and EHS rules, especially for :

Varnishing/unvarnishing boards

Replacing components

Perform serigraphy, cabling of CMS components and brazing with self-inspection

Track assemblies to be tested / repaired.

Clean assemblies to be tested / repaired.

Mechanical disassemble the products

Execute maintenance tasks on sub-system products

Execute maintenance tasks on tools and equipment

Operate production equipment

Ensure conformance to specifications

Fill of all necessary documents. Schematics, Fabrication drawings, etc..

Have the ability to make repair or scrap decision

Identify and cross reference components.

Organize and store components replacement and assemblies.

Ensure validity and certification of relevant tools

Populate relevant maintenance and repair follow-up in the data base

Guarantee information flow within the repair team

Perform quality self-control

Monitor the production process and carrying out basic testing and quality checks

Clean and maintain work areas and machinery in good state

Propose new or improved ways or working that will enable the Teams to improve their efficiency or the safety of their work

Undertake other duties as specified by the Repair Centre Manager

Carry out such work in accordance with strict Health & Safety procedures as laid down by legislation and the Company Health & Safety policies.

Attend regular team briefings

Read reports and manuals as and when required.

Report accidents/incidents, and the work done to validate or maintain the tools.

Drive company vehicles when required and applicable

Train new members of the team

Availability of machine and tools

Number of NC raised by industrial quality department and by client
